Roxas City is the capital of Capiz, on Panay's northern coast, and is widely called the Seafood Capital of the Philippines — a reputation built on its fishing grounds and the markets and restaurants along the Panay River and Baybay beach. It is the commercial centre of the province and the birthplace of Manuel Roxas, the fifth president of the Philippines, for whom it is named.
