Iloilo City is the regional centre of Western Visayas and the reason most people move to this part of Panay. It is made up of seven districts — City Proper, Jaro, Molo, Mandurriao, La Paz, Arevalo and Lapuz — each with a distinct character: heritage churches and ancestral houses in Jaro and Molo, the new business districts in Mandurriao, the old commercial core along the river in City Proper. The city anchors Metro Iloilo–Guimaras, and the towns immediately around it have grown as people commute in.
